2011-2012 Opera Season

Hubby and I just booked our operas for this coming season. Can't wait to see Anna Netrebko as Anne Boleyn. . . !

Oct: Anna Bolena (Donizetti)
Nov: Don Giovanni (Mozart)
Dec: Faust (Gounod)
Jan: The Enchanted Island (Handel, Vivaldi. etc.)
Feb: Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Rossini)
Mar: Manon (Massenet)

On top of these, I'm also accompanying my dear friend JJ to see the glorious countertenor Andreas Scholl in Rodelinda, Handel's Baroque masterpiece.

2010-2011 Opera Season

Hubby and I just booked our operas for this coming season. It's a nice mix of new productions and repertory performances at the Met. We have one performance every month, except for Dec when we're seeing two, and we're skipping Jan. Here's what we have lined up:

Oct: La Bohème
Nov: Così fan tutte
Dec: Don Carlo, Pelléas et Mélisande
Feb: Don Pasquale
Mar: Boris Godunov
Apr: Le Comte Ory

We may add Orfeo ed Euridice in May, but it depends on whether we decide to stay in NYC for hubby's bday or not.

Can't wait. . . .

The Diva who calms me down

I've been super busy at work this week in preparation for taking-off to Greece on Friday. To calm my stress levels, I've been listening to Massenet's opera Thaïs non-stop for 2 days.

Here is one of my favourite arias, Dis moi que je suis belle, sung by Renee Fleming in the title role of the Egyptian courtesan Thaïs. This was recorded on Dec 20, 2008, and I saw her perform it at the Met a few weeks later in Jan, 2009 with Johnny, Nic and Betts.
